No 3-D for Newest Harry Potter Movie

by Bruna Nessif

It looks like Daniel Radcliffe and the rest of the Harry Potter crew won't be all up in your face for their next box office hit.

Well, for part one anyway.

Warner Bros. released a statement late last night saying there won't be a 3-D version of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows—Part 1.

Why? There's just no time.

"Despite everyone's best efforts, we were unable to convert the film in its entirety and meet the highest standards of quality. We do not want to disappoint fans who have long-anticipated the conclusion of this extraordinary journey, and to that end, we are releasing our film day-and-date on Nov. 19, 2010 as planned," the statement said.

Rhames, "Potter" villain hit into the "Rough"

By Jay A. Fernandez

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Ving Rhames and "NYPD Blue" veteran Henry Simmons have been cast in the indie sports drama "From the Rough." "Harry Potter" regular Tom Felton is in negotiations to join the film, as well.

Taraji P. Henson ("The Karate Kid") stars as Cassandra Turner, a women's swim coach at an African-American university who gets a shot at rebuilding the men's golf team. The real-life story is inspired by Dr. Catana Starks, the first female head coach of an NCAA Division I men's team, as the golf coach at Tennessee State University.

Simmons will play the upper-class director of the school's athletic department that bumps up against Turner's blue-collar approach. Rhames will play Roger, a veteran maintenance man at the college who knows everything about everyone on campus. And Felton, who is an avid golfer in real life, will play Edward, a British golf hustler whom Turner recruits for the team.

Shooting begins in New Orleans in early October. Pierre Bagley is directing.

Rhames recently appeared in "Surrogates," "The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard" and "I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry." He next stars in the horror revamp "Piranha 3D," which swims into theatres August 20.

Simmons has recently appeared in the features "World's Greatest Dad," "Madea's Family Reunion," "Something New" and "Are We There Yet?"

Felton has played Draco Malfoy in all of the "Harry Potter" movies, the last two of which will be released in November and July. He will also appear in the Fox reboot "Rise of the Apes" next summer and the Warner Bros. horror-thriller "The Apparition" next September.

Two-part 'Deathly Hallows' brings Harry Potter to close

By Claudia Puig, USA TODAY

After laboring for a decade to adapt J.K. Rowling's tales of the wizarding world to the big screen, those associated with Harry Potter are gearing up for the Nov. 19 opening of the seventh film in the series.

USA TODAY has exclusive images from a new trailer for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows that hits theaters and goes online this weekend. An eighth film was shot at the same time, based on the second half of the 759-page book.

Warner Bros. is using the trailers to kick off "The Year of Harry Potter," which will culminate in the release next summer of the second part of Deathly Hallows. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park opened June 18 in Orlando.

The new movie focuses heavily on Harry's tangles with the evil Lord Voldemort. "Harry and Voldemort go wand to wand in the courtyard," says longtime producer David Heyman.

In one scene, Voldemort grabs Harry's face and malevolently hisses "Why do you live?" And brave Harry responds, "Because I have something to live for."

These last two films will be the first to be shown in IMAX 3-D.

"The technology has developed and offers great possibilities," Heyman says. "We won't be going for that 'wow, things always jumping out at you' effect. I think the best 3-D doesn't have to be aggressive. We'll be pushing back from the screen. We're going for an organic, truthful 3-D."

Potter's full of gold

Harry Potter's three young stars have amassed a fortune between them, adding some magic to the UK rich list, writes Richard Woods

They are barely in their 20s and are already multi-millionaires. At the age when many people are looking for their first job, the youngsters of The Sunday Times Rich List are buying country estates or jetting off to their overseas homes.

Although entrepreneurs ride high among the richest people under 30 in the UK, the most notable phenomenon is the magic worked by the Harry Potter films.

Daniel Radcliffe, the actor who rose to fame playing Potter, has seen his income soar since he received about £250000 for the first film. Last year he earned about £25-million and his fortune is now thought to be £42-million. Radcliffe, who dropped out of school after doing his AS-levels, is 20.

Like the character he plays, Radcliffe seems to be level-headed, especially with his millions. While many youngsters with money to burn might go wild on parties, cars and other toys, he has sensibly invested in bricks and mortar. As well as a flat in Fulham, London, he is accumulating property in New York.

His Potter co-stars have also earned huge sums. Emma Watson, 20, who plays Hermione Granger, is worth £22-million and owns a ski chalet in France.

Rupert Grint, who plays Ron Weasley, is worth £20-million and gives Radcliffe a run for his money as a property investor. Grint's acquisitions include a £5.4-million estate in Hertfordshire.

When he appeared in a Forbes list of top-paid young stars, Grint said: "There was a moment I remember thinking 'I have no idea what to do with all this money'." Then his Weasley instincts kicked in - he has splashed out on a hovercraft, a Range Rover and his own Mr Whippy ice-cream van.

'Hogwarts Castle' burns in Potter film set drama

By James Millbank

You could call it Harry Potter And The Studio Of Fire.

Film crew were forced to flee after a blaze destroyed a set on the latest movie about the boy wizard.

The drama happened when a special-effects explosion appears to have gone wrong during filming for a battle which marks the final scenes of Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows.
hogwarts

A set for Hogwarts Castle – the school of wizardry where Harry and his friends learn magic – was burned down, despite the efforts of six fire crews. The damage is estimated at £100,000.

The ‘Battle of Hogwarts’ scenes involve Harry – played by Daniel Radcliffe – raising an army of students to defend the school from an attack by evil wizard Voldemort.

None of the cast was on set when the accident happened on Friday night at Leavesden film studios, near Watford in Hertfordshire. However, around 100 film crew were present.

Watford fire brigade commander Tony Smith said: ‘There is a big battle scene involving a lot of pyrotechnics and explosions. There is a mocked-up castle made of timber, steel and plastic – somehow it caught alight.’

Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows is the final instalment of the Harry Potter film franchise. It will be in two parts and screened in 3D.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows ShoWest Footage Description

The ShoWest convention in Las Vegas wrapped up tonight but not before Warner Bros. showed off its final installment of an incredibly popular franchise. CinemaBlend attended the Warner Bros. presentation of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, which is set for release on November 19. Here's an excerpt of the site's article, describing the footage they were shown.

The footage shown came from all sections of The Deathly Hallows, so it's impossible to tell where they will split up the two movies. We saw little bits of everything, from the seven Harry Potters escaping from the Dursleys house (totally surreal) to the attack at Bill and Fleur's wedding to the escape from Gringotts on the pale dragon and even Hogwarts on fire. With unfinished effects it's hard to really say how it all looks, though some of the most effective moments were the simplest-- Ron and Harry's fight in the tent, Harry visiting his parents' graves, running away from the Snatchers in the woods, Harry defiantly telling Voldemort that he stays alive "because I have something worth fighting for."

The site also noted that the footage was still rather rough, with unfinished visual effects that have to be finished before the film's fall release.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows stars Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, Ralph Fiennes, Bill Nighy, John Hurt, Rhys Ifans, Helena Bonham Carter, Robbie Coltrane, Imelda Staunton, Jason Isaacs, Miranda Richardson, Warwick Davis, Alan Rickman, Maggie Smith, Brendan Gleeson, Ciaran Hinds, Timothy Spall, David Thewlis, Julie Walters, Tom Felton, Bonnie Wright, Jamie Campbell Bower, Richard Griffiths, Matthew Lewis, Evanna Lynch, Fiona Shaw, Helen McCrory, David O'Hara, Natalia Tena and will be released in theaters nationwide on November 19.

by Kimberly Ripley

Teen actors make big bucks; but exactly who makes the most? Daniel Radcliffe of Harry Potter fame and his co-stars Emma Watson (Hermione) and Rupert Grint (Ron) come in tops, with Radcliffe grossing $20 million per film. His co-actors come in slightly less than that.

Dakota Fanning is another teen actor that earns top wages. Her films, including "Sam I Am" and about a dozen more alongside A+ actors like Tom Cruise, Robert De Niro, and Mike Myers have earned $2 billion at the box office.

Teen actor Kristen Stewart comes in next as a top earning teen actor, having gorssed $1.5 billion at the box office with her success in the "Twilight" films. She appeared in the 2002 thriller "Panic Room" with Jodie Foster, and is appearing soon in "The Runaways" with Dakota Fanning.

Deathly Hollows to be released in 3-D

I just saw this news at aceshowbiz.com that HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HOLLOWS Part 2 will be released in 3-D. I can't wait to see it. Here is the full story:

'Green Lantern' and 'Deathly Hallows: Part II' to Be Released in 3-D
The superhero film was originally announced to be 2-D movie, but the next 'Harry Potter' installment had been said to get 3-D treatment.

More films are getting 3-D treatment. Following The 20th Century Fox's "Avatar" which successfully makes a lot of money by hitting 3-D theaters, Warner Bros. Pictures has announced that some of its upcoming films will get such treatment.

"Green Lantern" and "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II" are just two of the movies which are confirmed to be released in 3-D. The Ryan Reynolds-starring superhero movie was initially planned to be made into 2-D while the latest installment of the "Harry Potter" film franchise has been rumored to get the same treatment which will also be applied to "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I".

Moreover, the studio reveals that "Sucker Punch" which is directed by Zack Snyder will apply the same technology. Beside the Vanessa Hudgens-starring action comedy, another film by Snyder "Legend of the Guardians" is also going to hit 3-D theaters.

"Green Lantern" reportedly has begun test shooting on March 3 before kicking off principal photography later this month for June 17, 2011 release. Meanwhile, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II" which is set for July 15, 2011 release has been shot back to back with "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I" that will hit U.S. theaters on November 19 this year.

As of "Sucker Punch", it is aimed to get a PG-13 rating and is slated to be dropped in theaters across the U.S. on March 25, 2011. The animation debut of Synder "Legend of the Guardians", in the meantime, is set to arrive in U.S. theaters on September 24.
